Meet Our Doctors:
Dr. Stephen Wyler
Dr. Stephen Wyler was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. At age four, he told his parents he wanted to be an Animal Doctor, and a Guitar player. After attending James Madison High School, and two years at Queens College, he transferred to the University of Georgia, where he could pursue his Pre-Veterinary studies. During these years, he continued to work as a musician, playing both in local clubs and restaurants, as well as every summer at various hotels in the Catskill Mountains. It was his love for Latin Music, which allowed him to become one of the few Latin guitarists to play at the various New York City Hotels and Clubs, in the early sixties.
After graduating from the University of Georgia, with a B.S. in Zoology, with the opportunity to live abroad and learn another language and culture, he applied to the University of Bologna, Italy, Veterinary School. Three weeks later, and not knowing a word of Italian, he departed to begin the first year of Veterinary School, with his knowledge of Spanish from both High School, and College courses, and having spoken Spanish with Cuban and Puerto Rican musicians, he was able to quickly grasp the Italian language, and became the first American to pass the Italian Language Exam at the University. While attending classes and clinics, Dr. Wyler worked as an interpreter for the Medical School at Bologna University, in the Institute of Nephrology and Renal Dialysis. He assisted the Head of the Dept. in organizing many International Conferences for Urologists, as well as teaching English to the interns and residents. During this entire period, he managed to find time to play music, as well as study Martial Arts, which was to become, another passion in life.
Upon graduation, Dr. Wyler returned to New York, where he joined a group practice, in Brooklyn, not far from where he grew-up. After several years of working at various Animal Hospitals in Queens, as well as Long Island, he purchased a hospital, where he would remain a partner for eighteen years. During this period, and seeing a great need for an Exotic Animal Veterinarian in Queens, he opened Trylon Vet Care, with the goal of providing quality Veterinary Care for exotic animals, as well as dogs and cats.
Dr. Wyler’s special interests have always been dermatology, internal medicine, radiology, soft-tissue surgery, and of course, exotic animal medicine. As Veterinary Medicine is rapidly changing from day to day, Dr. Wyler feels that attending numerous courses and lectures is not only a passion, but also an obligation, in order to offer his patients the most recent diagnostics and therapies available. Although New York State requires a Veterinarian complete twenty hours of continuing education each year, Dr. Wyler often completes fifty to one-hundred hours annually. Dr. Wyler is the New York State Liaison to the Association of Avian Veterinarians, an international organization to promote the proper care and well-being of birds.
In addition, he is a participating member of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, and the Association of Amphibian and Reptilian Veterinarians, as well as numerous other Associations and Organizations.
When not working or attending meetings, he can be found at many of the NYC venues for Jazz, Latin Music, and especially Brazilian Music. He has met many Brazilian singers and musicians, and maintains a large Brazilian music library, has also studied Capoiera briefly, taught by Jelon Vieira, founder of the internationally acclaimed DanceBrazil. Dr. Wyler is also an avid fan of Foreign Films. Whenever possible, he returns to Bologna, where he visits many of his colleagues and friends.

She earned her DVM degree in 2006 and decided to return to Forest Hills and Trylon Vet Care. Dr Andino has special interests in dentistry, dermatology, and radiology, and under the guidance of Dr. Wyler will be cultivating her exotic practice skills. We are so proud to have her continue her career with us. Her long standing ties with our clients and with our staff, have made for a wonderful relationship.
